The Professional Education Committee has adopted a team leadership approach to more effectively address professional education and training issues throughout the world. Comprised of Cert.AVTs Kathryn Wilson of the United States, Tina Olmstead of Canada, and Dimity Dornan of Australia, the team will serve as the leadership for the Professional Education Committee of AVI.
To date, 91 Cert.AVTs are using the AVI Standardized Curriculum to provide training, or to supplement their own training materials. When a professional contacts the AVI office regarding training or mentorship opportunities, the AVI office provides the individual with the contact information for any Cert.AVT about whom specific information is sought. If no specific Cert.AVT is named, AVI matches the professional with the Cert.AVT(s) who are geographically closest to him or her. The AVI office typically disseminates three names to each professional seeking a mentor. If no geographic preference is expressed, the names of three Cert.AVTs are provided.
Professionals are reminded that while it provides contact information, AVI does not itself operate a Mentorship Program. It is incumbent upon the professionals seeking mentorship to communicate independently with any Cert.AVT whom they contact about services provided, any fees charged, amount of training, and the format for the same (i.e., in person, via e-mail, via videotape, number of face-to-face visits required, etc.).
Additionally, AVI does request information about any professionals being mentored by a Cert.AVT. For example, in a geographic area where there is not a Cert.AVT, the office may provide consumers with contact information with a professional who, while not certified, is receiving training pursuant to the AVI Standardized Curriculum to become certified.
